New Construction Prefers Metal Doors

According to recent studies metal doors are the most popular doors in new construction, 42% of builders preferred these doors for new and renovation of home's.

Which cold to the touch, which can be an unpleasant contrast to the warmth of log home's, these doors still have plenty of other benefits.

One being, the cost is roughly a third of the price of wooden doors. But that doesn't mean that they have to be less attractive. These doors can have a duplicate appearance of wood grain with textured lines stamped into the metal.

Steel doors offer greater insulation ( R-Value )than wood doors because of the insulating foam or wood-and-foam core. When fire protection or security is an issue these doors are the solution to your worries far better than most doors.

This steel comes in different gauges or thickness to provide different levels of security.Steel doors can be rated for keeping smoke and fire at bay for periods ranging from 20-90 minutes.

Pro's

Strong, energy efficient, impervious to climate changes and inexpensive, they also have added benefit of coming from the factory ready to be painted since they were already primed in the making.

Depending on the gauge of the metal they can offer unsurpassed security for keeping out unwelcomed visitors.

Con's

Besides being cold to the touch, they can be scratched and dented easily by everyday wear and tear such as anxious kids and dogs overly excited to go for a walk.

Those scratches and dents can become a real problem if not cared for,the rust will set in overtime.

Befor you pay high dollar for added security, keep in mind that your windows break easily!!

Cost

If buying your door from a home improvement center you may pay under $200 for a simple prehung six-panel without hardware or locksets. And you will pay a considerable amount more for decorative glass and brass hardware.

Keep in mind these doors can run $500 to more than $1500 installed.
