Doors That Make A Grand Entrance

Your log home doors can do more than just keep out elements.

It is the focal point of your new log home's design.

Even though log home or log cabin front entryways look more appealing being wood, some people are going with some other options.

There are three main types to consider including wood, fiberglass and metal.

Obviously, Wood entries require more maintenance because wood is subject to weathering.

If you live in a humid climate, the wood will swell and contract according to the climate, making them stick when it is humid, causing the glass to break more easily.

Fiberglass are more expensive, but if you prefer the wood look, fiberglass are made to resemble wood.

Metal ones are not metal thru and thru. They are metal on the outside on top of a wood frame with a Styrofoam core in the center.

This makes them very energy efficient.

Keep in mind when ordering you can ask that they cut out the hardware openings,In other words, for knobs and deadbolts.

When hanging you may want to take in consideration having them open “out” instead of in for added security.

When they open out they have the pins concealed and are harder to kick in and also add more room inside the house.(This has to be decided before the jams are installed.)

Some building codes also require that all exterior ones open out to make exiting the premises easier in case of a fire. Check with your local building inspector.

Taking your climate into consideration is a major step before ordering to prevent alot of maintenance.
